Olympique Lyonnais UEFA Champions League 2018/2019 Font

The kits of Olympique Lyonnais (Lyon) for the 2018/2019 season is supplied by Adidas. Olympique Lyonnais is using a different custom font for its matches in the UEFA Champions League.

The Lyon font only contains uppercase letters and numbers. The numbers has shadow and to make this possible in a font, the base number and the shadow must be separated. The base numbers (number 0 in the preview) are located in the normal number positions. The shadow (number 1 in the preview) is generated by pressing the Shift key, holding it down and then pressing the number key. To create a shadowed number, similar to the 2 and 8 in the preview image, press the desired number and then press the Shift+number keys. For example, to generate a shadowed 1, press the 1 key to generate the number 1, then press the Shift key and hold it then press the 1 key. If you prefer to use a different color for the shadow like in the Lyon font, set the desired color for the text before you create the shadow.

The kits of Real Madrid for the 2016/2017 season is provided by Adidas. Real Madrid plays in the Spanish La Liga and is using a new font for the 2016/17 season. Real Madrid used interesting and unique fonts during the previous seasons and this season's font is kind of a let down.

The Real Madrid font contains uppercase letters, numbers, some symbols and accented letters or diacritics. The characters in the font are (shown here in Verdana):

I also added a standard letter I as you might want it instead of the lowercase I that is used on the Real Madrid jersey (see image below). In addition, the letter I with accents also have alternates using the standard letter I. The alternate letters are available as stylistic alternates in programs that are OpenType feature aware. For other programs, you can use that program's glyph palette to manually replace the letter. The alternates are found in the Private Use Area (PUA) of the font starting at Unicode postion E000.

Adidas 2015/2016 Football Jersey Font

Adidas came out with its 2015/2016 kits in time for the Euro 2016 Finals. The new kits will use two different designs for the numbers - solid numbers for the home kit and an outlined stencil numbers for the away kit. The home and away kits use the same letters. The font will be used on the jerseys of Adidas sponsored teams in the finals as well as those engaged in playoffs for the finals. The teams using the new Adidas font are Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denmark, Germany, Northern Ireland, Russia, Spain, Sweden and Wales, among others.

Manchester United UEFA Champions League 2015/2016 Jersey Font

The kits of Manchester United for the 2015/2016 season is provided by Adidas. Manchester United plays in the English Premier League and on the UEFA Champions League. Manchester United is using a bespoke font for its European games.

The Manchester United font only contains uppercase letters, numbers, a Mc ligature and a period. Diacritics are not present on the jersey of Manchester United players.

The Mc ligature (like the one used in McNAIR) is generated by using the @ key. It can also be generated by typing the letters M and C in uppercase, lowercase or combinations (MC, Mc, mC, mc) in programs that are capable of accessing OpenType features. Both the TTF and OTF versions of the font contain OpenType coding for the Mc ligature.

Real Madrid 2015/2016 Jersey Font

The numbers were created by shifting a copy of the character. This was done twice. The first copy is solid and the second copy is outline. A very thin outline was used on the first copy and is only shown where the first copy overlaps the original character. This thin outline causes the numbers in the font not to render as intended in smaller point sizes. The numbers should be used at 450 points or higher at 72 ppi for the thin outline to render as designed. Using the font in higher resolutions will greatly improve the rendering of the numbers and enable the use of numbers at smaller point sizes. The image below shows the number 1 in different point sizes at 72 pixels per inch. Also, the numbers will likely not render well in non-graphics applications, like Microsoft Word. Note that this issue is only present on the numbers and not on the letters and other characters in the font.

Real Madrid 2014/2015 Jersey Font

The kits of Real Madrid for the 2014/2015 season is manufactured by Adidas. The font used for the name of the player and number on the jersey has 3D effect. Based on the effects, the original font used is likely in vector format only. 

The Real Madrid 2014/2015 font has the basic alphabet, numbers, some symbols and Latin-1 accented letters. All the characters in the font come in two sets - a set for the basic or plain character and another set is for the 3D highlight. All the letters are in the lowercase position, and the numbers and symbols are in their normal positions. The highlight for the letters are in the uppercase position, and the numbers and symbols are in the Shift-character position. Please refer to the instructions on how to create 3D characters for more details. The font is available in both Open Type and True Type font formats. 

The position of accents in accented letters follows the alignment as shown on Real Madrid jerseys, The exception is the Eacute (É) as shown on the jersey of Jesé The acute of the Eacute in the font is positioned as it is normally done. However, the Eacute with the acute positioned similar to that in the Jesé jersey is available as an alternate character.

FIFA World Cup 2014 Adidas Jersey Font

Adidas is providing the kits for Argentina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Colombia, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, Russia, Spain and Sweden. Adidas used a single font on the jersey of all their sponsored teams during the 2010 World Cup and that practice will continue for the World Cup 2014. 

The font contains 160 characters which includes two sets of numbers (shadow and foreground); all the letters, including accents, in the Latin-1 codepage; and, several punctuations and symbols. The font is available in both Open Type and True Type font formats.
